New online marketing possibilities

Facebook has recently launched some new advertising methods that could well change the face of webvertising forever.

Check it out here: http://www.facebook.com/press/releases.php?p=9166

The most radical one is called 'Beacon". Basically it allows web developers to enable actions taken by a user on a website to be added to the users profile within Facebook. For example Jonny buys a wetsuit from a website which then posts that event to Jonny's profile. Jonny's friends see that he's bought a wetsuit and ask if it's any good. Jonny says yes and off they go to buy their own.

Of course this has a dark side to it, in that people are afraid of companies getting so much personal and specific information about people.  Personaly I don't think it's an issue unless you are into arms dealing, human trafficking etc but then you probably wouldn't be on Facebook.

I reckon it's an awesome idea.

They also launched "Pages" which is another good thing. It's just a way for companies or professionals to add their info into Facebook, therby  letting the millions of users found out more and hopefully generate more business.

I've added one for digiflip and may recommend it to clients with little or no budget for a web presence.
