I often tell my clients that is it inadvisable to use obscure fonts on their websites (except of course in graphic files). I came across a great example of what websites can look like to someone who hasn't got got that particular font installed on their system. I have nearly one thousand fonts on my Mac but not 'shruti'!

I have finally received my letter from Google with my pin number authorising me be on
maps.google.com . So if you type in 'web design, Ballina, Australia' you may see me there on the map.
Google is a mythical legend in my distorted perception of reality so it's great to have a letter from them. I'm stoked :)

I read about Joost in Time Magazine. It's very exciting really - as big as the change from black and white tv to colour!
Well, it could be anyway.
Basically it's a revolutionary breakthrough in video streaming technology that enables anyone with a broadband connection to watch full screen tv.
As a video editor and web designer / developer it's big news. Not to mention the fact that here in this far off colony we don't have any sci-fi at on tv! Joost could easly handle 50,000 channels (according to Time) - one of the currently available channels is a sci-fi.
I Googled Joost upon reading the Time article and filled in the form to become a beta tester. Two weeks later I've been accepted. Now they've given me the authority to invite everyone else. So contact me if you want an invite.

I've been playing around with this MAMP this for a while now, just for the hell of it as I couldn't see much use for it - for me anyway.
Basically it's an application that installs a virtual server on a Mac, with Apache, Php etc - just like a real server. So it's really easy for us 'designer' types to install all those open source apps like Joomla, Wordpress etc - to test them out.
I recently found out that it's not really so hard to move Joomla and Wordpress from one server to another. So I built this new Digiflip site on my local Mac. Normally I would have had to buy a temporary domain and space on a live server to test it.
Now I've just discovered that with a few simple steps in my router admin I can make my testing server accessible by anyone with an interweb* connection!
Check out MAMP here
