Why online advertising can be so much better than offline

Well, firstly I must say I'm no online advertiser. I prefer to stick to one thing and become a master of it, you get my drift. Anyway last week I took the plunge and launched my first Google Adwords campaign as a complete novice. After 2 days and having spent a huge $19 Aud, I had already had a enquiry from a big potential client.

Compare this to last year when I paid $250 Aud to advertise in a certain local business magazine and after 3 months had only one enquiry! (which turned out to be a time waster). About $600 went to YellowPages for the year and I got zero relevant leads!

There are hundreds of reasons why online advertising is better (for most businesses anyway), the best of those is that you can ensure you only pay to advertise to people who are actively searching for your product of service. Secondly you can see what pages they look at on your website, for how long etc etc.

Now as you can see of the people my Adwords campaign brought to my site: 30% left immediately (70% stayed), 80% where first time visitors who stayed for a whopping average of 12 minutes and looked through an average of 9.5 pages of my site!

I'm no marketing guru, just one person doing my best to advertise my business succesfully (the right audience and a low cost). I'm pleased to say that so far my first proper advertising campaign has already been a success! :)

When people visit your website they can access you product or service immediately. This is not possible with print and television advertising. The great thing about the internet is that it is not only a marketing medium, it is also a call to action. You can receive a visitor from a pay per click search engine who can instantly make a purchasing decision. Whether your business is ecommerce based or not, you can turn these visitors into sales alot easier than in normal advertising where the viewer is not able to empower themselves and make the buying decision.
